The panther scampered away, frightened.
Barbaro stood up with cuts and gashes all on his neck. They weren't terribly bad and wasn't bleeding that much. He smiled at Kestrel.

Kes could tell that he wasn't hurt very badly, especially since he was smiling. "That was... different," she said, not the least bit fazed. "Though I can't say I wouldn't mind it returning," she continued, moving closer to caress him and ease the pain of his wounds.

"Are you OK?" Barbaro asked worried. He loved her and he would never want her to get injured. "I have a feeling he will be going many places for awhile now. He is hungry for blood," he said strongly. What Kestrel was doing to ease his pain was working.

"I'm perfectly okay," she assured him. "It never even touched me, thanks to you." She paused for a moment, thinking something over, and then continued. "I'm fairly sure the herds should be able to deal with it. I just hope it doesn't go after any loners or young ones."

"That would be horrible if it did!" Barbaro said surprised. "That beast needs to be killed. Oh, no! It is getting late. My love, I must go." He nuzzled Kestrel and hugged her by wrapping his neck around hers.

Kestrel sighed in disappointment, though she had known that he'd need to leave eventually. "Good bye, though I don't see anything good about farewells," she said, nuzzling him one last time.

"I will miss you with all my heart," Barbaro said as her turned reluctantly toward home. It was sunset and he had been there since afternoon. He began to trot home with one last glance back.
